The story

Nanmburang holds a venerable position in Mandinka households across The Gambia's Lower and Central River regions, traditionally offered to welcome long-distance travellers or served at weddings. The wild fruit of the majestic baobab tree (Adansonia digitata), locally known as buyo or sitoo, naturally dries on the branch into chalky, seed-encased pulp rich in pectin and prebiotic fiber. Food historians note that traditional preparation relies entirely on mechanical cold-water rubbing rather than heat, which preserves the heat-sensitive ascorbic acid and gives the beverage its signature naturally frothy, velvety texture.
