Zanzibar Urojo (Zanzibar Mix Soup)
A tangy, golden turmeric-mango broth ladled over crispy bhajias, potatoes, and fiery chutneys from Stone Town.
The story
Urojo, popularly known as 'Zanzibar Mix', is the crown jewel of Stone Town's evening street food scene at Forodhani Gardens. Born of centuries of Swahili and Indian cultural exchange across the archipelago, it layers a sour, silken flour-and-mango soup with fried lentil dumplings, crispy sev, and crushed cassava chips. Locals customize each bowl with fresh pili pili (chili) oil and fragrant coconut chutney.
