The story

Originating in the Cape Flats of Cape Town during the mid-1970s, the Gatsby is a communal cultural monument designed to feed multiple workers affordably after long shifts or weekend festivities. Conceived by takeaway owner Rashaad Pandy, this massive sandwich is traditionally sliced across into four hearty portions and shared straight out of butcher paper. Crucial to its identity is the layering of slap chips—thick-cut fries dressed in salt and vinegar so they stay soft and saucy, soaking up spicy meat drippings and fiery condiments.
