The story

Motoho is the cultural lifeblood of Lesotho, consumed universally across all ten districts from sunrise farm work to ceremonial family arrivals. Traditionally fermented in clay pots (nkho) using an active heirloom starter culture called 'tomoso', it delivers a complex lactic sourness and vital probiotics. A key technical rule among Basotho elders is that Motoho must never be boiled aggressively once thickened; it must be tempered and gently bloomed to maintain its silk-smooth, lump-free consistency without splitting.
