The story

Central to Shona celebrations across Zimbabwe, Mupunga Une Dovi elevates humble grain into a luxurious feast dish for Christmas, weddings, and family gatherings. Traditional cooks prefer unrefined, stone-ground peanut paste (dovi) made from locally roasted red peanuts (nzungu), which yields a distinct savory depth absent in commercial spreads. A critical technical nuance is adding the dovi only after the rice grains have absorbed most of the liquid and softened, preventing the nut oils from burning against the base of the cast-iron pot (tsaiya).
