The story

Sitfwayimbane is a cherished sweet porridge hailing from the rolling grasslands of the Eswatini Middleveld, made predominantly in autumn when wild sweet melons and tsamma melons ripen. Historically served as an indulgent afternoon treat or a dessert following community harvest work parties (lilima), it celebrates the harmonious meeting of field crops and dairy. The natural high-pectin juices of the indigenous melon eliminate the need for artificial thickeners, creating a rich pudding-like texture when combined with slow-cooked ground maize.
