The story
Topé is harvested directly from wild African oil palms across the mainland Río Muni rainforest and served during Fang community councils, marriage negotiations, and agricultural festivities. Freshly collected at dawn, the palm sap undergoes spontaneous natural fermentation via airborne yeasts living in the collection gourds, converting sugars into gentle alcohol within hours. In rural households, elders balance the evolving effervescence by lightly infusing the jug with bitter roots or bruised aromatic bark to moderate residual sweetness.
