The story

Central to social and spiritual life across all Setswana clans, Bojalwa jwa Setswana is brewed for ancestral libations (phadiso), wedding negotiations (patlo), and communal gatherings at the tribal kgotla. Women brewmasters pass down the delicate multistage process of combining raw sorghum (mabele) with malted sprouted grain (momela) to activate natural enzymes. Historically, the brew's quality is judged by its thick, creamy head, opaque dusky-pink hue, and its brisk lactic effervescence that quenches thirst in the Kalahari heat.
