The story

Among the Yao and Lomwe communities across southern and central Malawi, Mkhwani wa Mpiru is an indispensable evening relish designed to enrich humble staple grains. The dish balances the assertive, pungent bite of indigenous mustard greens against the creamy sweetness of freshly pounded raw groundnut flour (nsinjiro). Traditional cooks deliberately avoid pre-cooking the groundnut powder, allowing the raw peanut oils to gently emulsify directly with the releasing vegetable liquor over low heat.
