The story

Mosutlhane holds a cherished place among the Bangwato and Bakwena agrarian communities across central and southern Botswana. Typically prepared at dawn before long hours of fieldwork, it offers sustained complex carbohydrate energy to farming households. Unlike whole-grain bogobe, mosutlhane requires the grain to be traditionally stamped in a wooden kika (mortar) with water to strip the bran, resulting in an ivory-tinted, delicate starch that cooks significantly faster and yields a velvety texture.
